A rhetorical method for AI-assisted work

AI can produce your output. It cannot protect your reputation.

IC7 is a governed rhetoric system for serious AI users who refuse to let their thinking be averaged into the machine's default voice. It gives you a seven-level method for measuring intellectual complexity, preserving judgement, and producing AI-assisted work that still reads like you at your sharpest.

For founders, operators, strategists, educators, consultants, and creators whose authority depends on sounding original, precise, and recognisably themselves.

01 · The real problem

They called it the dead internet. They were aiming at the wrong target.

The dead-internet theory began as half a joke: that the web is now mostly bots and machine-written filler. Read it as a metaphor and it stops being funny — but the real danger is quieter than the filler everyone already sees.

The danger is that serious people start sounding less serious, because their judgement has been translated into the average language of the internet. Ungoverned AI rarely makes capable people sound incompetent. It makes them sound interchangeable.

Here is the mechanism. Left unguided, a language model gravitates toward the most probable continuation — the fluent centre of what has already been said. That is why its prose is so often polished and forgettable. Hand it your work before you have handed it your judgement, and it pulls your thinking toward the mean.

So the scarce asset is not output, and not even voice in the shallow sense. It is governed complexity: the ability to hold tension, integrate competing dimensions, and direct the model from a level of judgement the average cannot reproduce. That is the edge IC7 is built to measure, teach, and protect.

Before

Speed

AI made output instant and infinite. Speed was the edge — for about a year, until everyone had the same button.

Now

Sameness

Fluency went to zero cost, so it stopped being a signal. Competent and forgettable became the default register of the web.

Next

Governance

The advantage moves to what the mean can't reproduce: complexity, held and governed. The target most people can't yet see.

02 · The instrument

Seven levels of intellectual complexity.

Complexity is not intelligence and not verbosity. It is the degree to which a mind differentiates competing dimensions, then integrates them under a governing judgement. It is also the one axis a model cannot climb for you: strongest at the bottom, where positions are flat and imitable, and weakest at the top, where tension must be held and governed. IC7 measures where your thinking — and your AI-assisted work — currently sits, and gives you the method to climb. Every piece of AI-assisted work reveals the level of thinking that governed it.

IC·01

Assertion

A single fixed position, stated without alternatives. It sounds confident because it has not yet met complexity. Easy for AI to imitate.

IC·02

Distinction

Awareness that other legitimate positions exist, even if they are not yet engaged.

IC·03

Differentiation

Multiple dimensions of an issue held in view at once. The thinking gains texture and dimension.

IC·04

Tension

Competing considerations are acknowledged and weighed rather than resolved prematurely.

IC·05

Integration

Connections form across dimensions. Trade-offs become relationships, not contradictions.

IC·06

Synthesis

Superordinate frameworks emerge that explain why the tensions exist and how they cohere.

IC·07

Governance

Complexity is directed by judgement, voice, and purpose. The model no longer averages the work downward, because it is operating inside a governed rhetorical system. It is the level the machine cannot reach for you — because it requires a governing judgement that belongs to the author. This is IC7.

03 · The curriculum

A working method, taught as a discipline — not a library of prompts.

By the end you don't leave with better prompts. You leave with a governed system for producing AI-assisted work that carries your judgement, your voice, and your authority.

MODULE 01Foundations

Diagnostics

Learn to see where your writing flattens. Score your own work against the IC7 scale and identify exactly where AI has reduced complexity, tension, or voice.

AssessmentCalibration
MODULE 02Rhetoric

Voice Architecture

Build the rhetorical blueprint AI must obey: your audience, stance, register, argument patterns, emotional range, and non-negotiable voice constraints.

MODULE 03Engineering

Context Governance

Turn your rhetorical blueprint into standing context: the operating layer that stops the model regressing to the median every time it writes with you.

MODULE 04Practice

Governed Production

Apply the full loop to live work: draft, interrogate, escalate complexity, preserve voice, and govern the final output before it reaches your audience.

04 · The shift

What changes when you can see complexity.

The quotes below are illustrative composites of the shift IC7 produces — not attributed client testimonials. The metrics describe the method itself.

“It gave language to the thing I could feel but couldn't name — why my best thinking kept getting sanded down to something competent and forgettable.”

“I stopped chasing prompts. IC7 made me define the conditions first. Now the AI sounds like my sharpest draft, not the internet's average one.”

“The scale is the part that stuck. I can now see exactly where an argument flattens — and raise it on purpose.”

05 · The method's premise

The goal was never to write faster. It was to think at a level the machine cannot reach alone — and to keep that thinking recognisably mine.

IC7 grew out of a frustration I kept seeing in serious people: the better they became at using AI, the more their work began to lose the thing that made it theirs. The output improved. The identity weakened.

Founders sounded like content strategists. Consultants sounded like prompt libraries. Educators sounded like polished summaries. Operators sounded like thought leaders they would never choose to read.

The problem was not the model. The problem was that the model had been given the task before it had been given the judgement. IC7 is my answer to that — a discipline for governing intelligence before it becomes output.
